LGBTQ at UA:In 2012-13 I served as the President of Capstone Alliance, the registered UA group for LGBTQ+ and allied faculty, staff, and graduate students. We build community (especially for new arrivals to Tuscaloosa), conduct education and outreach (mostly through Safe Zone, check out safezone.ua.edu) and advocate for programs and policies with the UA administration.
Safe Zone Resource Center & SpectrumFrom 2011-18 I was a senior training and advisory board menber of UA SafeZone, conducting trainings and working with staff and faculty all over campus. Safe Zone Allies are a vital part of making UA campus safe and inclusive for all students!
Finally, during my time as co-advisor to Spectrum, UA's undergrad LGBTQ+ student group, I was proud to take part in the first UA is Home video project (see right) in spring '14. |
UA is Home ProjectIn 2015 my wife and I played a visible role in pushing Tuscaloosa County to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

Sport at UAFrom 2012-18 I served as co-head coach for UA Women's Rugby. During that time we won our conference once and participated in regional or national championship tournaments three years in a row. The team is very student-led and always looking for new players... Find them on facebook!
I also teach and research on sport issues - check out my other pages for more info...

LEADERSHIP at UA:
From 2012-2016 I served as a Faculty Senator for the College of Communication and Information Sciences... During the 2013-14 school year I was elected to a university-wide task force to address issues of equity, inclusion, and citizenship on UA's campus. |
campus tours: Race & Public Memory at uA:My love of local history, has led to my work on Race, Public Memory & Campus Tours. It began as a special campus tour dedicated to Autherine Lucy, the Forgotten Hero , then efforts to get a historical marker to Lucy, our truly first Black student, and grew into partnerships with visiting groups, an experiential learning class, independent studies, and all sorts of opportunities to improve our campus.
I also give talks to various groups throughout the year. If I'm free and not too overwhelmed I love to share my work with others and learn about our campus! |
